About

Hi I’m Laila, thanks for stopping by.

I’m a recovered “ish” dieter / anorexic / bulimic / binge eater / over exerciser (pick any eatingdisorder!). I made this blog to document my growth, starting with leaving my job in May 2017. At first I wrote about all sorts, but as time went on I knew there was a large part of me that I was holding back which culminated in my confessional post My Biggest Shark where I admitted having had struggled with anorexia, bulimia and all that lies between for well over a decade. You can read the longer story of my eating disorder in Laila vs. Food (a rather long story I blurted out one night 2 years ago)

In November 2016, I started attending appointments at an Eating Disorders outpatient clinic and I kept it up for a whole year. You can read about The 1st Appointment and The Last Appointment

Anyone looking for support with an eating disorder I would highly recommend the free resources on this website

Since that last appointment in November 2017 I’ve had my ups and downs. You can read about one of those moments here: The Happy World Of Haribo?

On 2 November 2018 – pretty much exactly a year to the day that I finished my 1 year of appointments, and two years since I started them, I was having a weird day and feeling a bit blurgh but what came out of it was my decision to write It’s all about weight & nothing to do with it! and made the decision to set up my new Instagram page for eating disorder recovery – bulimiafree as I had a thought that maybe sharing my thoughts could possibly be useful or interesting to someone out there.

The blog journey has been one of intermittent posts, enjoyable typing, lovely support and releasing of secrets.. which has been hugely cathartic. It’s helped me to release a lot of the shame and secrecy surrounding my eating disorder which I hope is now a thing of the past.

There is something about the written form that for me at least, won’t allow me to lie and mask the truth so much. For all those who read and shared a moment on any of my posts, thank you!
